Fob repairs
Don't bin a fob that just needs fixing
Worn buttons, a cracked shell, a loose blade or a battery that won't hold – all mendable, and a repair keeps your original programming so there's nothing to teach the car.
What can be repaired
- Buttons that have worn through or stopped responding – the rubber pad or micro-switch is replaced
- Cases split, cracked or held together with tape – the electronics move into a new shell
- Flip-key blades that have gone floppy or snapped – new blade fitted and cut
- Batteries, including fobs that eat batteries because of a dry solder joint
- Range – fobs that only work when you're stood next to the car
Repair or replace?
If the chip and circuit board are fine, repair wins every time: it's cheaper and quicker. If the board is cracked or water-damaged, Ian will tell you straight that a new key programmed to the car is the better bet, and quote for that instead.
Keyless and smart fobs
Proximity keys can often be re-cased and re-bladed too. Ring with the make and model.
